After presenting the most beautiful sights in the square city of Mannheim in our last article, today we would like to take a look at moving to Mannheim. Because this city is a hotspot for creative people and a UNESCO City of Music, which has already produced musicians such as Laith Al-Deen and Joy Fleming.
The most beautiful districts of Mannheim
In the middle of the city center, surrounded by shopping opportunities, restaurants and cosy cafés, lies the trendy Jungbusch district. It is also home to the famous Popakademie as well as theaters and street art. The clubs ensure that this district never sleeps, even at night, and there is always something to discover.
The Neckarstadt Ost and Neckarstadt West districts are also centrally located. Especially in summer, the people of Mannheim meet here on the Neckarwiese to relax, listen to live music or attend a poetry slam. Various cultural events are held in the old fire station. The district itself has many modernized Art Nouveau buildings, trendy pubs and exclusive stores.
The Lindenhof district, on the other hand, is central and a lot quieter. Located directly on the Rhine, the countryside here is ideal for jogging and walking. The main train station is still only a 10-minute walk away.
As the name itself suggests, the garden city is particularly green. The open-air stage, for example, is located here and offers all kinds of activities for young and old. The adjacent adventure playground makes children’s hearts beat faster, while the open-air stage itself offers children’s theater, musicals and concerts for all ages. The Käfertal Forest is also very popular with families.
The Wallstadt district of Mannheim is more rural and has a small-town charm. Thanks to public transport, you can get to the city quickly, but live away from the hustle and bustle. It’s almost rural here on the outskirts of the city. The perfect combination for anyone who likes the activities of a city but the peace and quiet of home.
What makes Mannheim special
As we already reported in the article on the most beautiful sights in Mannheim, Mannheim is a square city. This is very reminiscent of large American cities, which are numbered consecutively and therefore do without street names. Mannheim is divided into coordinates ranging from A1 to U6. A1, for example, has been home to the Mannheim district court since the end of the Second World War.
Do not forget to re-register
If you decide to move to Mannheim, you must inform the authorities, institutions and service providers of your change of address. This is done after you have successfully registered at your new place of residence. You have two weeks to register with the local authority. If you exceed this deadline by a few days, you can benefit from a certain amount of goodwill, which the municipalities are usually willing to offer.
But be careful: if the deadline is exceeded, a fine of up to 1,000 euros can be imposed. As a tenant, you must also ensure that you submit a written certificate from the new landlord to the registration office.
Why should you move to Mannheim?
