Construction work starts on new smart apartment in Bielefeld
Bielefeld, 23.04.2024
The laying of the foundation stone marks the official start of construction work on the new smartments directly at Bielefeld’s main railway station. By the end of next year, 223 modern serviced apartments will be built here. Both travelers who are in the city for several weeks and guests with short stays will find the right offer here – especially young professionals and city explorers.
One highlight will be the large community kitchen on the top floor, which is available to all guests free of charge around the clock and offers a great view of the city from the south-facing balcony. Each apartment in the new smartments offers a comfortable living and sleeping area as well as a modern bathroom. smartments actively promotes the idea of community: open communal spaces invite you to co-working, networking and a variety of events.
Bielefeld’s Lord Mayor Pit Clausen was delighted with the start of construction at the foundation stone ceremony: “The serviced apartments are an enrichment for the entire area around the main railway station. The gap between the buildings on Bahnhofstrasse is now being closed with an interesting and innovative real estate concept. A restaurant on the first floor for everyone, with the serviced apartments above: that sounds exciting.”
Architecturally, the project also blends harmoniously into its surroundings. The City of Bielefeld’s design advisory board closely monitored the planning process. “Façade designs, good proportions and a scale appropriate to the surroundings are the decisive factor, especially in prestigious urban locations,” emphasizes the chairman of the advisory board, architect and urban planner Prof. Rolf Westerheide: “Cooperating effectively and trustingly here and achieving good urban integration has a positive effect far beyond the one building. The attractiveness of the entire city center depends on this, especially at urban arrival points such as the main train station.”
The focus during planning and realization is on sustainability. The high energy efficiency standard 40 is a special feature for a serviced apartment project in Germany. It also has DGNB Gold pre-certification. The energy-efficient design is combined with a photovoltaic system to generate its own electricity. The curtain wall cladding consists of 40 percent recycled building material. The use of concrete is deliberately reduced.
For over a decade, smartments has been setting standards in the areas of microliving and serviced apartments. The building in Bielefeld continues the trend towards community building and expands the smartments portfolio to almost 2,400 units.
“The high demand shows how relevant our offer is. We are consistently focusing on growth,” says Daniel Zawe (leave it at that? He was still Managing Director…), Managing Director of smartments. The aim is to increase the number of units to around 5,000 in the coming years and offer even more people a temporary home.
