Aparthotel and apartment hotel – a definition

The type of accommodation is important, regardless of whether it is a business trip or a vacation. In addition to the classic hotel or the usual vacation apartment, the market now offers many interesting concepts that flexibly meet the needs of guests. These include the so-called aparthotel or apartment hotel.

What is an aparthotel?

An aparthotel combines the advantages of a hotel and a vacation apartment. Instead of individual rooms, smaller and larger apartments are rented out, each with its own bathroom and often its own kitchen. This allows you to enjoy the independence of a vacation apartment while enjoying all the comforts of a hotel. This comfort includes, for example, daily room cleaning, a change of bed linen and towels and breakfast is often included. Another advantage is that you can book such an aparthotel for just one night, unlike a vacation apartment. This means you can get the best of both worlds without having to do without anything.

Who are aparthotels suitable for?

Aparthotels, or apartment hotels, are particularly suitable for those who like flexible accommodation and want to live according to their own rhythm – even when traveling. If you like to sleep in without having to worry about breakfast times, because you can cater for yourself in an aparthotel, this is the right place for you. If you always have problems eating like you do at home when you’re traveling, your own kitchen is the perfect solution.

However, in aparthotels, as in hotels, breakfast is also served on the premises, so guests have a choice. Families with children will appreciate the fact that the kids sleep in the separate bedroom next door and not in a room that can only be reached via the hotel corridor. Small groups, friends and couples will also get their money’s worth with these apartments. Especially if you want to save a little on food, having cooking facilities within the rented four walls is priceless!

Differentiation from the serviced apartment

Serviced apartments, such as those offered by smartments, are different from apartment hotels, although the advantages are almost identical. One difference is that serviced apartments do not offer breakfast, whereas we have our own café in Berlin.

So if you don’t want to start the day in the kitchen, you just have to come downstairs. At our other locations, you also have the opportunity to get a quick breakfast. This is because all our hotels are centrally located and close to various everyday shopping facilities. Bakery, discount store or café – the guest has the choice here too.

The second difference between a serviced apartment and an aparthotel is that you stay in a serviced apartment on a permanent rather than daily basis, so it is unusual to rent for a day. Guests usually stay for at least 7 to 180 days. Otherwise, people who like flexibility and a central location will find the same advantages in a serviced apartment like smartments as in an apartment hotel.

Demarcation from the hotel

The difference is quickly explained: in a hotel, as the name suggests, the guest only gets a hotel room – without an equipped kitchenette or individual space. A hotel room is primarily a place for short visits. That’s why the furnishings are limited to the bare essentials.

So if you opt for an aparthotel or a serviced apartment, you don’t have to do without any of the services you are used to in a hotel. Instead, you get added freedom, don’t have to adjust to the hotel’s own hours and still enjoy services such as room cleaning. Basically everything a hotel offers, only with more space to live, live and develop.
